Hunkering down? Here’s some light reading for your coronavirus quarantine....

Throughout the world, and more specifically, in my neighborhood, health officials are calling for quarantines, self-isolation and social distancing.  We are coming together to fight off a viral enemy...by staying apart and alone. With churches, schools, offices and a host of our favorite recreational activities closed, reading is one of the few past times we can still indulge in. But has your local library shut its doors because of the outbreak, like mine has? No worries! Here is my curated list of online resources that are particularly relevant in these troubled times: We've been through this before. For many of us,...

Book Review: We’re With You: Counsel and Encouragement from Your Brethren

One of my favourite books recently is Letters to a Young Mormon by Adam Miller. Not even “favourite church books”, or “favourite non-fiction”, it’s so wonderful. So, when I heard there was a new publication from Deseret Book called We’re With You: Counsel and Encouragement from Your Brethren, I was excited to review it. Rather than the letters to youth that I expected, though, this book is comprised of excerpts from addresses given at various venues by members of the Quorum of the 12 Apostles and the First Presidency. Reading!

Our family was a bustle of preparing the book release all week long. Most of us re-read the whole series--or at least the sixth book--beforehand. We also made long lists of predications, loose ends that needed to be resolved, etc. We made wild predictions. We came just short of placing bets. 🙂 The kids and my husband dressed up for the party (John made a perfect Snape except for his ever-present smile). When we picked up the book from our favorite children's bookstore the proprietor (a good friend) handed us a small packet of...
What is Exponent II?

Exponent II provides Mormon feminist forums for women and gender minorities across the Mormon spectrum to share their diverse life experiences in an atmosphere of trust and acceptance. Through these exchanges, we strive to create a community to better understand and support each other.

Exponent II was founded in 1974 by a group of Mormon women in Cambridge, Massachusetts. These women were inspired by the original periodical, “The Woman’s Exponent,” to create a forum “posed on the dual platforms of Mormonism and Feminism.”

For 50+ years, Exponent II has shared women’s voices in its quarterly magazine, and members of the community have convened at an annual retreat. Our reach has expanded as technology has advanced: the blog, founded in January 2006, has reached millions. As we look to the future, we are focused on growth and building a more inclusive community.
