Sunday Sermon: Four Marys
As I walked with these women, they led me to the feet of the Savior. The women of the Bible often come to know Jesus in quiet, humble ways—on their knees; seeking guidance and forgiveness; crying out in the darkness; serving others; and speaking up for what is right. Four women play an especial role in the Savior’s mission on Earth. They share a love and intimate knowledge of Jesus Christ. They also share a name: Mary.
The Hypocrisy of Our Missionary Work (and How to Fix It!)
If we won't acknowledge the very real pain our missionaries cause other families as we proselytize to their doorsteps, we need to stop complaining about our own sadness when someone we love has a faith crisis and leaves the LDS church. It's either okay for people to change their beliefs to match their own circumstances and desires in life, or everyone needs to stick with the religious system they were born into. We can't have it both ways.
Without Dissent, There is Stagnation.
Lavender -
Dissent is a vital aspect of progress but it is not just the voices of those who suffer that create moral and social improvements, it is the powerholders' ability to listen and the united ability of the majority to re-imagine reality together. We are a nation that greatly benefits from dissenters.
Fact-Checking Spiritual Op-Eds
As I’ve grown spiritually, I’ve come to firmly believe that it’s okay to “fact-check” the spiritual "op-eds" in our life - yes, even scriptures, manuals, lessons, and General Conference.
Why can’t women handle money for the church?
Ann -
As things are currently organized I cannot serve as a Ward Financial Clerk. I can't help prepare a deposit of tithing money. I can't process reimbursement checks. I can't help distribute fast offering funds. I can't help prepare the ward budget.
The Holy Spirit Broke My Shelf
Ann -
We'd been talking about the Holy Spirit for almost an hour when we came upon a huge theological rift - one that we hadn't realized existed. Keep in mind I'd read nearly 35 pages about Pneumatology and hadn't picked up on this.
Sacrament Talk 2.0
omen haven't been theologians? This was not true at the time Elder Maxwell wrote it, and it isn't true now. What is true, however, is that the male leadership of the church have systematically denied and repressed the power women, transmasc, and non-binary people have.
The Spirit of God Like a Fire is Burning: A different kind of General Conference
And as I chatted with younger leaders (basically anyone under 50) from different places in the hallways, at meals, and between sessions, the feelings of frustration, hope, discouragement, and possibility bubbled over. Other people my age really care about this stuff. At the next World Conference, we're going to be prepared with new legislative proposals reflecting the changes we would like to see. The frustrations of today will not go to waste. The Spirit of God like a fire is burning. Its just a slower burn than I'd like to see.
