Relief Society Lesson Intro: The Life and Ministry of Joseph Fielding...

This section, "The Life and Ministry of Joseph Fielding Smith," isn't technically a lesson, but I think it provides helpful background and can prepare the class for the upcoming year of lessons and may be taught as a first Sunday lesson by the Relief Society presidency. The Historical Summary of President Smith's life can be found here and is also helpful in giving us some background of his life. Because this lesson gives an overview of President Smith's life, there's not a lot of need for innovation. Consider having various members of the class retell the stories in this section....

Moving days are coming

by Brooke For the past four years, I have been expecting to move away. My hopes have wandered all over the country as my husband interviewed for teaching jobs at universities and colleges. You may be able to imagine how thrilled I was--my shock and joy, but not without some wariness (what if they changed their minds?)--when this February, my husband got that elusive job offer. It was a maelstrom in the climactic chapter of Moby Dick that enveloped and destroyed Captain Ahab and his chip. I believe that the term maelstrom can also be used to describe the powerful currents of social and cultural practices in which we grow up and live, which envelop us and shape—to varying degrees—the values, perceptions, and mores upon which we make our decisions… …The Book of Mormon is replete with references to the “traditions...
What is Exponent II?

Exponent II provides Mormon feminist forums for women and gender minorities across the Mormon spectrum to share their diverse life experiences in an atmosphere of trust and acceptance. Through these exchanges, we strive to create a community to better understand and support each other.

Exponent II was founded in 1974 by a group of Mormon women in Cambridge, Massachusetts. These women were inspired by the original periodical, “The Woman’s Exponent,” to create a forum “posed on the dual platforms of Mormonism and Feminism.”

For 50+ years, Exponent II has shared women’s voices in its quarterly magazine, and members of the community have convened at an annual retreat. Our reach has expanded as technology has advanced: the blog, founded in January 2006, has reached millions. As we look to the future, we are focused on growth and building a more inclusive community.
