Virtual Oases II

Once again, here is a weekend round-up of LDS women's voices on the web. When your own questions are reflected in your children Julie explores: When Paul says that women should cover their heads, is he subjugating them or liberating them? She then explains how she has found peace, as a woman, in the gospel Speaking up about Post-Partum Depression Molly Bennion asks "What would a more inclusive patriarchal structure look like?" Artemis contemplates a Lilith/Eve Amalgam Emily's beautiful essay "How the Prayers Ran Dry" Sunstone article: "Toward a More Authentic Sisterhood: Unmasking Hidden Envy and Competition among LDS Women" A Review of "Grace Notes" (by an honorary...

One of the most beautiful sights I've seen: Last night E (my daughter) spread her homework around on the living room floor. She sprawled her own body out in the middle of textbooks, papers, pencils/pens, erasers, etc. As she tapped her toes together while doing math problems, well, it rivaled the most beautiful painting on the Louvre. To see her wholly absorbed in the moment as her pencil moved across the paper, to have her look up at me every once in awhile and confirm a math question. Pink or Blue Diplomas?

In some parts of the country, female students make up 60% of students enrolled in AP or honors classes, and constitute 57 percent of undergraduates nationwide. The stats are making some hot-headed. In a weird reversal, some are making accusations that schools have been rewired to cater to girls while leaving...
What is Exponent II?

Exponent II provides Mormon feminist forums for women and gender minorities across the Mormon spectrum to share their diverse life experiences in an atmosphere of trust and acceptance. Through these exchanges, we strive to create a community to better understand and support each other.

Exponent II was founded in 1974 by a group of Mormon women in Cambridge, Massachusetts. These women were inspired by the original periodical, “The Woman’s Exponent,” to create a forum “posed on the dual platforms of Mormonism and Feminism.”

For 50+ years, Exponent II has shared women’s voices in its quarterly magazine, and members of the community have convened at an annual retreat. Our reach has expanded as technology has advanced: the blog, founded in January 2006, has reached millions. As we look to the future, we are focused on growth and building a more inclusive community.
