Heavenly Mother Resource Guide

With the inclusion of Heavenly Mother in the new Young Women's theme, I hope and suspect that there will be even more interest in learning about–and feeling close to–Her. I'm not going to pretend that this guide includes every possible source, just that it includes my favorites and the ones I go to when people ask me for recommendations. I hope you'll share your own favorites in the comments. From the Church/ish: "'A Mother There': A Survey of Historical Teachings about Mother in Heaven." Written by David Paulsen and Martin Pulido. Researched by Martin Pulido, Rachel Hunt Steenblik, and a whole...

My Ten Favorite Female-led Podcasts

Last night I was thinking about when I was twelve years old, and my family was imminently relocating to Mexico City.  I knew absolutely nothing about Mexico City, let alone Mexico.  I spoke zero Spanish.  I knew that my dad traveled there often for work, and that he was fluent, but I didn't even know what to expect.  I actually stressed about whether I would be riding a donkey to school.  It seems absolutely ridiculous in hindsight (and completely embarrassing, honestly), but in 1993, we didn't have Google, or even much of an internet.  I remember accessing my grandfather's...

Podcasting

This week my husband and I recorded our first-ever podcast where I banter a bit with him as he tells the story of his conversion to Mormonism and I read a short essay that I wrote about my favorite cemetery. The experience of recording my voice for the Internet was discomfiting. I don't like hearing myself talk, and I was pretty self-conscious in the process. Generally I feel I make a better impression with my writing than with my voice. I am hesitant when I speak, and I have difficulty articulating my thoughts clearly. However, I am excited...
What is Exponent II?

Exponent II provides Mormon feminist forums for women and gender minorities across the Mormon spectrum to share their diverse life experiences in an atmosphere of trust and acceptance. Through these exchanges, we strive to create a community to better understand and support each other.

Exponent II was founded in 1974 by a group of Mormon women in Cambridge, Massachusetts. These women were inspired by the original periodical, “The Woman’s Exponent,” to create a forum “posed on the dual platforms of Mormonism and Feminism.”

For 50+ years, Exponent II has shared women’s voices in its quarterly magazine, and members of the community have convened at an annual retreat. Our reach has expanded as technology has advanced: the blog, founded in January 2006, has reached millions. As we look to the future, we are focused on growth and building a more inclusive community.
