President Wixom gave a beautiful and inspiring talk about divine nature, reminding us that we all have a divine destiny.
She began with a story of birth. “Life is a gift,” taught President Rosemary Wixom, Primary General President. “We come into this world trailing clouds of glory.” She concluded the birth story by quoting Elaine Cannon, who served as president of the Young Women organization from 1978 to 1984. “There are two important days in a woman’s life: The day she is born and the day she finds out why.”
She explained that our divine nature is not about accomplishments, status or popularity; it comes from God. Therefore, we should seek validation vertically from God, not horizontally from those around us.
We identify our divine nature as we feel and give the love of God. Because we are children of God, God knows who we can become. As we come to see ourselves as children of God, we should ask, “Therefore what?” For me, adding that simple two word question. “Therefore what?” to the phrase, “I am a child of God,’ made it much more meaningful.
She went on to explain that not only do we need God, but God needs us. Our divine nature prompts us to act; it breeds the desire to serve others. As President Wixom taught, our future comes alive when we do more than simply exist.
