IRA Distribution
If you are 70 1/2 years old or older, you can give up to $100,000 from your IRA directly to a qualified charity such as Exponent II without having to pay income taxes on the money. If you are married, and if you and your spouse are both over 70 1⁄2, you may each give up to $100,000. In addition, if you are 72 years old or older and required to make a minimum distribution from your IRA, a transfer to a qualified charity can satisfy the minimum distribution requirement.
NOTE: This short description is not intended as tax advice to any individual. The mechanics of making a gift from an IRA can be very simple. However, the tax consequences are technical and can be complicated. Please consult with your tax advisor.
Planned Gifts
A bequest is one of the easiest gifts to make. With the help of an attorney, you can include language in your will or trust specifying that a gift be made to Exponent II (either a gift of a percentage of your estate or a specific dollar amount), or you can make a bequest using a beneficiary designation form.
You can also designate Exponent II as a full, partial, or contingent beneficiary of your retirement account (IRA, 401(k), 403(b), or pension), and designating Exponent II as a beneficiary of your life insurance policy. If you have been so generous as to include a bequest to Exponent II as part of your estate plan, please let us know so we can recognize you and your family for your generosity.
Sample Bequest Language:
I give to the EXPONENT II INC, a Massachusetts nonprofit corporation, the sum of ___ dollars ($ ___ ) OR ___ percent (___%) of the residue of my estate to be used in such manner as its Board of Directors may direct.
Multi-period gifts
Many Donor-Advised Funds allow for repeat donations. Exponent II would be happy to discuss more complicated plans. Exponent II would be happy to discuss the mechanics of setting up a recurring DAF donation or other more complicated plan.
