What Could I Have Done Differently With My Life if I...

This year I've discovered a woman with an oddly parallel life to my own. Her name is Dr. Angela Dunn, but you've probably never heard of her if you don’t live in Utah (where I am). However, if you do happen to live here you’ll know her very well, because she’s our state epidemiologist during the Covid-19 pandemic. Dr. Dunn and I are both 39 years old, we live in Utah, we like hiking and running, we're moms, and in 2014 when an ebola outbreak erupted in Africa it turned both of our lives upside down (but for different reasons). I...

Goblins and Jesus

After over an hour’s drive from the already remote campsite where we were staying, we arrived at Goblin Valley State Park, Utah. I had fond memories of coming here with my parents when I was a child, exploring the maze of hoodoos and climbing on the strange, goblin-shaped rock formations, but I had never taken my own kids here until now. Idea: Make Statues of Polygamous Wives

Statues of slaveholders and colonizers are coming down left and right these days, and the controversy is intense. I've tried to imagine how it would feel to be a slave from the 1800s and see the person who owned me memorialized into a statue, or how it must feel to be the descendant of that slave and see those monuments every time I walk across my college campus or town square. I can only imagine their feelings, but the same thought experiment got me thinking about a statue in my own town - and one whose problems I can...
What is Exponent II?

Exponent II provides Mormon feminist forums for women and gender minorities across the Mormon spectrum to share their diverse life experiences in an atmosphere of trust and acceptance. Through these exchanges, we strive to create a community to better understand and support each other.

Exponent II was founded in 1974 by a group of Mormon women in Cambridge, Massachusetts. These women were inspired by the original periodical, “The Woman’s Exponent,” to create a forum “posed on the dual platforms of Mormonism and Feminism.”

For 50+ years, Exponent II has shared women’s voices in its quarterly magazine, and members of the community have convened at an annual retreat. Our reach has expanded as technology has advanced: the blog, founded in January 2006, has reached millions. As we look to the future, we are focused on growth and building a more inclusive community.
