My yellow teacup children
in an afternoon window,
Their names were
a favorite pastime.
My Olives and Stars
were put away but
not as carefully or as quietly
as I would have liked.
Try revitalizing an impossible past
and it will only fill you
with second guessing.

When did you write this poem Brooke??
This week. If you know me personally, (like Jana) you might wonder where this one came from (I’ve never had surgery). I was just trying on another’s perspective. I don’t know for sure if it worked.
I love the last stanza…I guess this time of year always has me thinking about (and often second-guessing) things in my past.
I’m not sure why, but this poem brought tears to my eyes. For me it evokes a loss of possibility, or of dreams deferred.
Also, the image is just perfect for the poem. Such a delicate little teacup. Lovely.
Ok a tangent (becuase I am sipping my own cup of tea and have teatime on the brain), next time you’re in SLC, you all really must drop by the Beehive Teahouse. It’s charming and cozy. Here’s a review:
