Guest Post: A Seat At The Table is Only The Start

Guest Post by Bryn. Bryn is a transplant to New England who loves her small ward nestled in the mountains. She teaches composition, takes her kids to martial arts and cub scouts, and plays Wingspan as often as she can. On a regular fifth Sunday earlier this year, the Bishop and Elder’s Quorum President of my very small ward gathered the adults together to have a conversation about recent organizational shifts. They explained that more responsibility had been moved from the Bishop to the Elder’s Quorum and Relief Society. They asked us all to consider how we are building Zion...

The Gift of Laryngitis

By Jessawhy When I woke up Sunday morning, I hoped my voice was better than the night before, but it was worse. A day managing the admissions of a salsa tasting fundraiser (attended by 20,000 people) had done incredible damage on my already sore throat. Barely able to whisper, I made calls for help with my Primary class and sharing time. Filters

The other night I was chatting with my friends and I mentioned that I was wearing my ‘filter’—that magical device that prevents me from blurting out rude comments at inappropriate moments . My filter keeps me from using four-letter expletives outside of my home and keeps me from publicly burping, farting, inappropriately scratching, etc. It also prevents me from saying what I really think on some occasions. For example, I would rarely tell a friend if I thought their outfit was unflattering or if I thought they might be pregnant because their belly seemed a bit...
What is Exponent II?

Exponent II provides Mormon feminist forums for women and gender minorities across the Mormon spectrum to share their diverse life experiences in an atmosphere of trust and acceptance. Through these exchanges, we strive to create a community to better understand and support each other.

Exponent II was founded in 1974 by a group of Mormon women in Cambridge, Massachusetts. These women were inspired by the original periodical, “The Woman’s Exponent,” to create a forum “posed on the dual platforms of Mormonism and Feminism.”

For 50+ years, Exponent II has shared women’s voices in its quarterly magazine, and members of the community have convened at an annual retreat. Our reach has expanded as technology has advanced: the blog, founded in January 2006, has reached millions. As we look to the future, we are focused on growth and building a more inclusive community.
