An Overly Personal Book Review: Faithfully Feminist: Jewish, Christian & Muslim...

Nancy Ross is a professor of art history at Dixie State University. She is interested in contemporary Mormon feminism and is currently writing a memoir about reading the Book of Mormon at different stages of her life.  Faithfully Feminist: Jewish, Christian, & Muslim Feminists on Why We Stay. Edited by Gina Messina-Dysert, Jennifer Zobair, & Amy Levin. Forward by Judith Plaskow, Rosemary Radford Ruether, & Amina Wadud. I hate to gush, but if I could nominate this book to be elevated to scripture, I would. I ordered it because my friend and fellow Mofem Caroline Kline had an essay in it. I...

Heavenly Mother’s Day: God the Mother Revisited

Guest Post by Janice Allred   I first began thinking seriously about God the Mother around 1987. My sister, Margaret Toscano, was already doing work in this area, and reading her work and talking with her helped me to realize how important this topic is. I had always been interested in philosophical questions, which led me into theology. My first theological essay, which dealt with forgiveness, was published in 1978 in Sunstone. Announcement: Counterpoint Conference in Salt Lake City, October 8, 2011

Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 8, at the University of Utah! (Flyer coming soon when other panelists are confirmed.) The Counterpoint Conference is hosted by Mormon Women's Forum each fall. This year, Elouise Bell is the keynote speaker. She was a professor of English at BYU for many years and an out-spoken feminist. If you have never heard her speak, don’t pass up this opportunity. She is funny, provocative, and rarely does public speaking anymore. Theme: "How We Have Changed. How We Must Change. Men and Women in Dialogue about Mormon Feminism." Where have we been as Mormon...
What is Exponent II?

Exponent II provides Mormon feminist forums for women and gender minorities across the Mormon spectrum to share their diverse life experiences in an atmosphere of trust and acceptance. Through these exchanges, we strive to create a community to better understand and support each other.

Exponent II was founded in 1974 by a group of Mormon women in Cambridge, Massachusetts. These women were inspired by the original periodical, “The Woman’s Exponent,” to create a forum “posed on the dual platforms of Mormonism and Feminism.”

For 50+ years, Exponent II has shared women’s voices in its quarterly magazine, and members of the community have convened at an annual retreat. Our reach has expanded as technology has advanced: the blog, founded in January 2006, has reached millions. As we look to the future, we are focused on growth and building a more inclusive community.
