  1. I think I must be a freak, because I don’t think I’ve seen any of these LDS Christmas movies. Did you see these in Sunday School classes growing up?

    1. Yes, and in seminary, and I grew up in Utah, so I saw them on Temple Square in December when we would look at lights, and they come on TV pretty regularly…maybe because Utah has KBYU on public television? Joy to the World and Mr. Kreugar’s Christmas were also sent to all Ensign subscribers as DVDs a few years back.

Hmm, maybe i should have asked, which LDS Christmas movies have you seen?

When I feel despair at the civil rights ground we’ve lost recently, ground that was gained through the work and sometimes blood of people like Howard Thurman and Martin Luther King, I remind myself that even though things feel bleak, they are nowhere near as bleak as they were in Thurman’s time. Today feels dark, but it is not even close to the darkest days this country has seen. Trump and his ilk are a step back, but perspective shows us, and I believe Howard Thurman would tell us, we have a robust precedent for hope.
The moment I laid my hands on [the nativity] box, I was confronted with the painful reality that this artifact had become complicated for me. . . . [The transgender] policy sent a clear message to my child and our family: we were no longer welcome or even acceptable in our church community. After years of dedicated service to the church, I felt a deep sense of betrayal. My child was being treated as a leper. I could no longer attend an institution that was actively sending such a harmful message to my child and other transgender individuals.
